Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
Position Summary
The Certified Nurse Midwife provides comprehensive women’s health care across the lifespan, including prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, gynecologic, and preventive services. This role emphasizes patient-centered, evidence-based care, health promotion, and collaboration within interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive midwifery care, including prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum services
- Conduct gynecologic examinations, preventive screenings, and family planning services
- Manage low-risk pregnancies and births within scope of practice
- Perform vaginal deliveries and assist with obstetric procedures as appropriate
- Provide newborn assessments and care as permitted by scope and privileges
- Educate patients and families on pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and wellness
- Collaborate with obstetricians, nurses, lactation consultants, and ancillary services
- Identify high-risk conditions and initiate appropriate consultation or referral
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record
- Support quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives
Practice Setting
- Hospital labor and delivery units and/or outpatient women’s health clinics
- May include on-call, shift-based, or scheduled coverage depending on practice model
Patient Population
- Women across reproductive and post-reproductive stages
- Obstetric patients with low-risk pregnancies
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing or Midwifery
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse-Midwifery education program
- Current certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
- Eligible for unrestricted advanced practice licensure in the practicing state
- DEA registration or eligibility, if applicable
