Pediatric Hospitalist (MD/DO)

Position Summary

The Pediatric Hospitalist provides comprehensive inpatient medical care to infants, children, and adolescents. This role focuses on the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of acute pediatric illnesses, coordination of multidisciplinary inpatient care, and facilitation of safe transitions from hospital to home using evidence-based, family-centered practices.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct inpatient care to hospitalized pediatric patients
  • Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, and daily patient assessments
  • Diagnose and manage acute pediatric medical conditions and exacerbations of chronic illness
  • Admit, manage, and discharge pediatric patients
  • Coordinate care with pediatric subspecialists, nursing staff, case management, and ancillary services
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care planning
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
  • Respond to changes in patient condition and manage urgent clinical issues
  • Support care transitions and ensure appropriate outpatient follow-up
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and utilization initiatives
  • Supervise and educate residents, medical students, or advanced practice providers as applicable
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards

 

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Pediatrics residency program
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in Pediatrics
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
  • DEA registration or eligibility

Work Environment

  • Pediatric inpatient units, observation units, and hospital settings
  • Schedule may include day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts depending on program structure

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout inpatient units
  • Manual dexterity for pediatric examinations and procedures
  • Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and communication
